Janki, I’m not as good at describing food tastes as you! All I can think of is that they taste like eggs, but just the best, richest eggs ever. Like the difference between watered down coffee and a darker, full bodied cup- it’s same thing, just amped up.

I did try fresh figs in California- quite tasty. I’d be curious to know how the jackfruit is made into the Indian vegetable dish.

mamey sapote looks like papaya and i am so intrigued. have you tried fresh figs? so delicate and yummy. banana wine sounds awesome. jackfruit makes a meaty and delicious indian vegetable dish. i love your blog…you are too funny and clever.

Oh, a mamey! It’s been years since I’ve had one… like 12 yrs!
I don’t know if they have them in Hawaii, but have you tried the cashew fruit? I haven’t seen one for much longer than the mamey…

They grow two kinds- red ace and ferona. Ferona are a little longer and are apparently
good for pickling. Those were the ones we had for lunch.

Do you know what variety of beets were grown there? We grow Detroit Dark Red in our garden and we love them, but we may be looking to plant a new variety next year for some change. Thanks.
