Frozen “Stained Glass”

Since it’s 0 degrees out here, figured it would be a good time to make these frozen sun catcher creations that I’d seen.

For the base, I used the tin of the coffee cake we just enjoyed (a cheese Danish from Aldi- so good), a pie tin, and empty butter containers. I had some cranberries and citrus that were starting to go bad in our fridge and used those. We also added bird seed to some. We placed the fruit in the container, put a piece of looped twine about 1/3 of the way down (weighed down by the fruit), and covered with water. I placed some in the freezer and some outside to freeze.

The sun catchers popped out easy from all the tins and plastic containers. If I used a plastic butter container again I’d probably just not fill it so high so it wouldn’t be so thick.

I also referenced this tutorial 🙂

Neat idea and so very pretty! Have you seen any birds come visit for the seed?

  2. The birds haven’t visited them yet. But it’s been so cold we’re only getting a few visitors to our regular feeder. Hoping when things warm up a bit the birds will come to all the feeding options 🙂
